Anuário Estatístico Brasileiro do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (Petroleum, Natural Gas and Bio Fuels Brazilian Statistics Year Book) 2010, published by Agência Nacional do Petróleo, Gás Natural e Biocombustíveis (Petroleum, Natural Gas and Bio Fuels National Agency) – ANP, issued in September last year, which consolidates the industries figures from 2000 thru 2009, shows that in the year of 2009, the 16 national refineries added up a 332.7 thousand square meter/day refining capacity. The refining capacity as measured in square meter per calendar day, considering the factor of 90.8% was approximately 316.1 thousand square meter/day. Among those refineries, 12 belonged to Petrobrás (Brazilian government owned oil company) and were accountable for 98.1% of the total capacity. Replan – SP, was the Brazilian refinery with the highest installed capacity: 66 000 square meter/day or 19.8% of the national total. The four private refineries were Manguinhos – Rio de Janeiro; Riograndense – Rio Grande do Sul; Univen – São Paulo and Dax Oil – Bahia.
Still according to the data published in the yearly publication, the Southeast Area refineries were accountable for 207.3 thousand square meter/day or 62.3% of the Country total capacity. In 2009, 1.8 million barrels/day of oil (659.1 million barrels in the year) were processed by the national refining park, which represents a volume that is 1.8% higher as compared to the previous year. Out of the total that was processed, 76.6% were of national origin and 21.4% were imported.
In this context, Univen Petróleo, one of the newest private refineries in Brazil, is included in a new concept of micro refineries, meeting the needs of specific markets on demand.
